Our Approach
Bluegill Touchpoints:
  • Keep in touch.
  • Return phone calls.
  • Be honest.
  • Work hard.
  • If in doubt, ask.
  • Sweat the small stuff-pay attention to detail.
  • Own the problem, take responsibility, take initiative.
  • Work with the best.
  • Remember, creativity serves the business, not the other way around.
  • Be goal, research, and results-driven.
  • Be humble and approachable.
Bluegill’s approach is quite simple, but surprisingly unique in our field. It’s based on a few simple tenets.

Communication is key– In the rush and logistics it takes to oversee all the parts and deadlines involved in a coordinated communications effort, the client sometimes gets lost in the shuffle. We understand our clients are the experts in their fields and in order to tell their story, we have to know their story first. We keep our clients engaged and informed before any steps are taken. It’s not unusual to get emails or phone calls from Bluegill over weekends or late into the night. We know the term “9 to 5” doesn’t mean a lot in this field.

Be honest– Sometimes brutally honest. We believe we are not serving our clients by simply rubber-stamping existing or ineffective practices. By the same token, if our approach is not working or if we’re in error, we’ll be the first to correct it. This approach flows through everything we do, including estimating and invoicing.

Work with the best– The professionals we work with have significant experience and great track records–a requirement to work with Bluegill. But perhaps more significantly, we understand that any time people work together, personalities are as important as talent. We choose team members we like and trust.

Put the creative staff with the client– While it may seem like an obvious oversight, in our field clients are often segmented from the staff working on their accounts. We think this communications filter can only hamper the process. Bluegill clients meet directly with those working on their projects.

Be goal, research, and results-driven– Bringing a business mindset to a creative field can be challenging. We understand that no matter how much we might personally like a creative approach, if it does not meet the goal of the project or does not yield results, it’s time to rethink.

Keep your edge– We stay immersed in the latest issues in our fields, from communications trends to IT developments. Our learning curve never stops.

Keep it simple– Sometimes clients need year-long marketing plans with research, budgets, timelines, and deliverables, but sometimes clients just need a brochure. Don’t build a mountain out of a molehill, but know when you really need that mountain.

Be nice– Be humble, approachable, and down-to-earth. Work hard and love your work. Have a good time. You’d be surprised how smoothly a project can go when the team has fun doing it.
